Useful Ideas On How You Can Accustome Yourself To A Different Sleep Pattern And Ease Your Jet Lag
No CommentsMany people have had the awful feeling of jet lag that normally accompanies flying through different time zones. This usually happens on long haul flights where there can be quite a time difference between your departure and your arrival. This sort of time discrepancy has a massive affect on your body clock.
When you get to feel like this it is as though you have just been given strong medication or you have had a heavy drinking session and it is commonly referred to as jet lag but according to some of the experts it is possible to ease the effects of jet lag when you are traveling like this.
You can start a few days before you are due to depart on your trip. It is as simple as changing the time you go to bed by 1 hour for every day and getting used to living in the new time zone. If you plan to travel east then you must go to bed 1 hour earlier and if you are traveling west then go to bed 1 hour later.
But by doing this you must also alter your times for waking up. In other words if you go to bed 1 hour earlier then you should in fact rise 1 hour earlier. The same goes for going to bed 1 hour later you will have to get up 1 hour later.
When the time comes for your flight you should then alter your watch to the time that you will be on when you finally reach your destination. By using this time you will be getting your mind accustomed to the new time. You can then proceed to do the things that you would normally do at that particular time, for instance eat when your watch tells you it is meal time.
If your watch tells you it is time for you to sleep then you should try to get some shut eye. Another good idea is to keep hydrated during your flight by taking in plenty of liquids. But you should stay clear of diuretics such as alcohol or coffee.
Once you finally arrive at your destination do not go and take a nap straight away. Try to last as long as you can until your new bedtime so your body can get use to the new times. If you are really tired you must just try to last as long as physically possible to this time.
Staying in the sun can help your body to acclimatize to your new time zone. If you feel the urge to have a nap then try to limit these to periods of about 1 hour.
