No CommentsStatistics show that the majority of people will experience the discomfort and inconvenience of chronic lower back pain at some stage. Our sedentary lifestyles, the many labor-saving devices in our homes and lack of regular exercise have all contributed to the rise in the prevalence of lower back pain NJ.
You need to see your doctor before you try any treatment methods so that a correct diagnosis can be reached. This could involve imaging tests like MRI, ultrasound or x-ray, to determine what, if any, structural damage is present. Once you know the cause of the problem, the best treatment method can be determined. Unfortunately, the cause of lower back pain is not always able to be determined and often medication is the only course of action that is offered.
Lower back pain is commonly caused by poor posture that results from lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyles and demands of many jobs. When your muscles aren’t used fully on a regular basis, they become weak and incorrect posture can result. This puts strain on certain areas of the body, causing discomfort.
When the abdominal muscles are weak, they cannot keep the pelvis at the correct angle and this causes the curve of the lumbar spine to increase. This misalignment of the spine is a very common cause of discomfort in the lumbar region of the spine. To get relief, stand up straight then pull in the abdominals and tuck the buttocks under to correct the curvature of the lumbar spine.
When back pain is experienced, rest is the best treatment, with the application of an ice pack to help bring relief. One of the best positions to achieve relief is lying flat on your back on a firm surface with the knees bent so that the feet are flat. This position allows you to gently push your belly-button towards your spine which stretches the lumbar spine and relieves the tension and discomfort.
The aim of treatment for postural problems is to stretch and strengthen the muscles of the upper body and legs so that the trunk can be held naturally in the correct anatomical position. These muscles are often referred to as the core; core exercise need to be done regularly, including stretches for the muscles of the upper legs.
Another common cause of lower back pain is a misalignment of the spine, often caused by incorrect posture. Many people find great relief when they are treated by a chiropractor who works to lessen this misalignment. A physical therapist can help you with core strength exercises.
